Prof. Dr. Ir. Paul Van Houtte

Professor at KU Leuven | Department of Structural Materials

Paul Van Houtte is professor at KU Leuven. Van Houtte dedicated a great deal of his research projects to mechanical properties and constitutive models of metal alloys for structural applications. He is actively involved in the following research topics:

  • Crystal plasticity models for simulating the crystal accommodation of macroscopically imposed boundary conditions of stress and strain;

  • Multi-scale modelling of the plastic deformation of polycrystalline materials;

  • Elasto-plastic finite element modelling of forming processes of anisotropic materials;

  • Development of the anistropic constitutive models required to that purpose;

  • Mesoscale modelling (grain size range) of plastic deformation of polycrystalline aggregates with crystallographic texture;

  • Microscopic (range 1-10 micrometers) modelling of anistropy induced by dislocation patterning;

  • Measurement of crystallographic texture by X-ray diffraction determination of ODF (orientation distribution function);

  • Measurement of local texture by means of automated electron backscattering diffraction on a SEM.
