Economics of Cybersecurity

Welcome to the website of the Economics of Cybersecurity group at the Faculty of Technology, Policy, and Management (TPM) at Delft University of Technology. We analyze large-scale Internet measurement and incident data to identify how the markets for Internet services deal with security risks.

News

  • March 22, 2016: Hadi Asghari and Michael Ciere's USENIX paper on Conficker cleanup was one of five nominees for the  Dutch Cyber Security Research paper Award 2016. The jury report stated: "The paper describes an excellent and detailed longitudinal statistical analysis of a large dataset obtained through the sinkhole of the Conficker worm, with some conclusions that are useful for a broader audience as well... Overall a great paper to read with lots of data."

  • Dec 10th, 2015: EconSec group is co-organizing the "International Workshop on Traffic Measurements for Cybersecurity (WTMC 2016)" co-located with the 11th ACM Asia Conference on Computer and Communications Security (AsiaCCS 2016) on May 30th, 2016
  • Sept 1st, 2015: Hadi Asghari will be a visiting research scholar at the Center for Information Technology Policy at Princeton University, United States

  • July, 2015: Michel van Eeten will be a visiting professor collaborating with Katsunari Yoshioka at Yokohama National University, Japan

  • May 12th, 2014: New PhD candidate in our team: MSc. Arman Noroozian
  • Feb 21th, 2014: Bernold Nieuwesteeg's Master's thesis "The legal position and social effects of security breach notification laws", was awarded with the 2013 Internet Thesis Prize by Internet provider XS4All and law firm Brinckhof. Congratulations, Bernold! His thesis was jointly supervised by TU Delft's Michel van Eeten, Bauke Steenhuisen and Jan van den Berg and by European law scholars Sybe de Vries and Ton van den Brink from Utrecht University.
  • Feb 19th, 2014: Two new PhD candidates will soon join our team: Orcun Cetin and Michael Ciere.
  • Jan 30th, 2014: EconSec group organizing the PRACTICE (JP)/TU Delft (NL)/ ACDC  (EU)/NCSC (NL) joint workshop "Innovating botnet mitigation: sharing insights , data, and approaches across different project" on Feb. 6th-7th, 2014
  • Jan 30th, 2014: Two new Post-doctoral researchers joining our team: Dr. Carlos Gañán  and Dr. Maciej Korczyński. Two more PhD candidates will join our team soon too.
