Economics of Innovation
The chair Economics of Innovation has been newly founded in 1997. Besides a full professor (Dr Alfred Kleinknecht), the scientific staff consists of 5 tenured lecturers and 2 PhD students.
We provide courses in Economics and Management, with a special emphasis on innovation and technological change. These courses are open to students from all engineering faculties.
Our research focuses on the economic determinants of innovation and technological change. Recent research includes econometric analysis of large databases on innovative behaviour in manufacturing and service industries, and the relation between economic regulation, wage costs, profits and innovation. Besides internally funded research, we undertake contract research for the national government and for international agencies (European Commission, OECD and others).
